The Inside Scoop to the Buzz at the Basin

WOW… New Snow!

The time has come and we knew it would! Arapahoe Basin received 4 inches of snow on Monday 4 inches on Thursday and there is more coming! This weekend will be a great time to hit the slopes.

A-Basin Snowsports will be offering "Super Sunday" lessons during Learn to Ski and Ride Month. On January 22nd and 29th, you can purchase a first-time, half-day beginner lesson for only $75. Reservations are required and can be made by booking online.

A Message From Alan Henceroth, COO/VP

Although we came out of the gates really fast back in October, we lost a little wind rounding that first corner. With the jet stream way north and the high pressure overhead, we haven't had quite as much snow as I would like. Despite that, the terrain we do have open has been outstanding with special kudos going to the cat drivers and snowmakers.

The weather forecasters are saying a big change is happening. The snowfall early in the week and the forecasted snow for later this week are welcome news. Our ski patrol has been working hard impacting our steeper terrain. They are doing a lot of explosives work, ski cutting, ski packing, and boot packing. They do this to reduce avalanche concerns and to improve the snow quality. Compacted and impacted snow is denser and more stable than unconsolidated and un-impacted snow. The impacted snow makes a good base and is less likely to collapse and slide as new snow falls. The compacted and impacted base with new fluffy stuff on top makes ideal skiing and riding conditions. Thanks to all of you that have joined us so far this season. I look forward to seeing the rest of you soon. Take care.  Al
