Join us for a six-part series of uphill challenges on Tuesday mornings in November, December, and January. Register for all six and save, or pick and choose which morning works best for you. The early morning Rise and Shine Rando Races are a fun and challenging way to start your day! Pre-registration is mandatory.
- Race start: 7:00 a.m. in Mountain Goat Plaza
- Check-in begins at 6:00 a.m. in the Rental Shop
Course Description - Subject to change based on snow conditions
Up we go for one last time. Appreciate all the great participation in these races!
Begin by heading up Sundance through its top pitch, then turn left into the trees near the weather station. After crossing the flats just below Black Mountain Lodge, you will dive into the trees of Mountain Goat Alley and break treeline below Gentry and Jamie’s Face. Traverse under Gentry to a steep, mandatory boot pack alongside the rope line in the closed portion of Jamie’s Face. A light pack is not mandatory, but would be very wise.
When you reach the flat at the top, get back on your skis and do a long contour to climber’s right including sharp switchbacks to reach Cornice Run just below the summit. Transition to ski down Cornice Run and continue across the ridgeline to the top of the Pali Lift. Along the way, you will need to skate and herringbone up a sharp knoll to visit the old Pali Bullwheel. Don’t forget to enjoy the view!
From the top of Pali, ski down Grizzly Road to Slalom Slope to Powder Keg Glade (note that Slalom and Powder Keg are black-diamond runs). Ski past the front of Black Mountain Lodge and take Ramrod to the base area.
Transition at the start and head up again but with a twist! The route from here is mostly in the trees between Sundance and High Noon. You will finish inside Black Mountain Lodge. This route will potentially be used for uphill access during operational hours in the future so please pay attention and give us your feedback.
Thanks for playing and enjoy your upcoming spring touring season!
Participants are required to wear a helmet while participating in the Rise and Shine Rando events. Arapahoe Basin strongly recommends the use of helmets that meet either the ASTM F2040 or CEN 1077 rating. Helmets must fit properly and be worn according to manufacturer’s recommendations when in use.
Pricing
- $25 for one race. Pre-registration is mandatory.
