Join us March 11 for the first-ever Summit County Rescue Group Steep Gullies Gauntlet, an endurance event for hardiest of skiers and riders that will raise money for an important, local organization. Challenge yourself to see how many laps you can muscle, or just join us for the taco bar at the end of the day.
Summit County Rescue Group (SCRG) has been keeping Summit County residents and visitors safe, at no cost, since 1972. This all-volunteer, non-profit team has responded to over 4000 missions in that time including rescuing climbers, hikers, anglers, mountain bikers, paragliders, ATV and horseback riders in the summer; hunters in the fall; kayakers, rafters and paddlers in the spring; and backcountry skiers, snowshoers, ice climbers, snowmobilers and avalanche victims in the winter.
Arapahoe Basin and SCRG have a lot in common; we share a love of the outdoors, a passion for adventure, a focus on safety, and a long history as a key player in the Summit County community. That's why we want to help them raise much-needed funds for their infrastructure.
SCRG’s current headquarters is a dilapidated metal garage built in the 1960s in the Frisco County Commons area. The current space lacks adequate vehicle and equipment storage, and is in need of training and administrative rooms. It is time for SCRG to have a place to call home -- a place that meets the needs of a team that responded to 217 calls in 2021 and was the second busiest backcountry search and rescue team in the state of Colorado.
The Summit County government is footing a large chunk of the bill for SCRG’s new facility, which is expected to break ground in the spring of this year and be finished in 2023. But SCRG has been tasked with raising $1.375 million. The volunteers of SCRG began fundraising in 2020 and are asking for your help in reaching the finish line.
Register for the event and solicit sponsors for each lap you ski or ride. If the Steep Gullies isn’t your thing, you can buy a raffle ticket or attend the taco dinner after the event. Registration for the whole thing is $200. Or, sign up for the taco bar for just $20.
