Well, we finally have a new Snow Stake. Anyone that has skied here a while, knows that during and following a storm, The Basin often skis like we have more snow (sometimes a lot more snow) than we report. I might be the only resort manager out there that regularly gets razzed (in fun) by guests for under-reporting snow. For that reason, we had used our old hand crafted, wooden Flaming A, without a mesuring stick, to be more of a qualitative description of the snow experience. We tried to get people to look more at the snow and less at the numbers. It was all meant to be fun and reward curiosity. The savviest of skiers, knew that what they saw on the Flaming A was going to feel like it was twice that much snow as they swooped down The Spine. Some people liked that and a lot of people didn't. We definitely heard the requests to have a conventional stake. I was the hold out on the old way, but I finally caved. We have a very cool, new stake with a good measuring stick. I hope you enjoy it.
