While our trail map shows more than a hundred ski trails, we probably have another 1,000 "back of the house" names to describe all the nooks and crannies on the mountain. One line commonly used with the snowmakers, groomers and patrollers is "Highline / Tower 3 Pitch." Highline splits left from Dercum's Gulch a few hundred feet below the bottom of the West Wall. It runs into Tower 3 Pitch. It is funny that there are no towers on that pitch, but for 40 years (1978-2018) Tower 3 of the Norway Lift stood near the bottom of the pitch. Even funnier, it was actually the second tower, but the lift manufacturer (Yan) regularly called the bottom terminal of his lifts Tower 1. The rest of us would have counted the towers from the bottom and called it Tower 2.
Anyway, the snowmakers, groomers and patrollers spent the last several days making and prepping snow for today's opening of "Highline / Tower 3 Pitch."
